Tired of fighting Cape Cod traffic... or just want to get out the city for a while?
Information for Travelers to Southeastern Massachusetts.
I hope this saves some time for the customers of Rock Village and helps plan your trip to New England. Holidays and weekends are busy with traffic after July 4th so try to plan your trip accordingly. June and Sept. are great travel periods because traffic is not generally an issue however; many seasonal activities have not started or have discontinued. A drive down the arm of Massachusetts on 6A is always a good choice during June and September. The Sandwich Antique Center, Heritage Plantation and the Blown Glass museum in Sandwich are great adventures. www.sandwichma.org Sandy Neck beach can be seen from Barnstable Harbor along 6A. Some of the most beautiful town s are Chatham, New Orleans and Truro. For a faster ride use the mid-cape highway parallel to 6A. Another adventure I would arrange would be a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard on the fast ferry out of New Bedford http://www.nefastferry.com/nmfastferry/directions.html. New Bedford avoids cape traffic. I could bring my car or rent a motorbike after I landed. The Newport Mansions in Rhode Island would also be a wonderful day trip. Specialty tours including dinner, etc. can be arranged. http://newportmansions.org. (For history enthusiasts) The next day I would go to Plymouth Plantation, www.plimoth.org see the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock and after take a historic cruise on the Pilgrim Belle http://www.plymouthharborcruises.com., or take a tour with http://www.lanterntours.com/. For live performances see http://www.melodytent.com/.
For those who would rather spend the whole day on the water the whale watching cruises and or deep-sea fishing with http://www.captjohn.com or maybe a cruise down the Cape Cod Canal out of Plymouth Harbor would be more suitable http://www.hy-linecruises.com. The countryside is beautiful and can be viewed from a train. www.capetrain.com. There is also one ferry over to the tip of Massachusetts; Provincetown from Plymouth harbor at 10AM. Check the schedule at http://provincetownferry.com. The sand dunes of Sandy Neck are very pretty but the water is chilly on the North side. The warm side of the cape is the south side. Onset beach and or Horse Neck beach are warm. There is an undertow at Horse Neck Beach so be careful. Falmouth beaches are warm and beautiful. http://www.fuzzylu.com many listed. The Boston Trolley is another wonderful trip. The mbta train leaves every few hours from Middleboro so driving is not necessary. See www.bostontours.us for the Trolley Ride and http://mbta.com/ for train schedules. Also, for traffic: www.boston.com/traffic.
